Health Kentucky Honors Several Health Care Leaders at 2009 Twist & Bid Gala
Health Kentucky, Inc., one of the Commonwealth’s largest nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping the uninsured, honored some of Kentucky’s leaders in the Healthcare Industry at the 2009 Twist & Bid Gala held Saturday, October 24, at the Seelbach Hotel in Louisville.
Health Kentucky was created in 1984 to help low-income uninsured Kentuckians get the care they need by offering free medical services and prescription medicines through a statewide nonprofit network of health care providers, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and pharmacies. More than 300,000 individuals have been helped through the organization since its inception.
“Our mission is to give Kentucky’s working poor access to the healthcare services and prescriptions they need,” said Larry Forgy, President of Health Kentucky. “The Twist & Bid Gala is our opportunity to say thank you to those who help carry out our mission and to raise the funding necessary to keep it going.”
Health Kentucky’s annual fundraising gala, “Twist & Bid”, brings together more than 400 healthcare executives, physicians, business leaders and state legislators to honor health care leaders whose outstanding service has assisted Kentucky’s poorest with their health care needs. The 2009 honorees included:
Pharmacy Service Award: Donald B. Kupper, R.Ph., M.B.A., University Hospital
Hospital Service Award: University Hospital
Lifetime Service Award: Salem George (Lebanon, KY)
Service Award: Mark Carter (Louisville, KY)
Medical Service Award: Phillip Aaron, M.D. (Columbia, KY)
Advocacy Award: Mary Lou Marzian, Kentucky State Representative (Jefferson County, KY); Julie Rose Denton, Kentucky State Senator (Jefferson County, KY)
Health Kentucky was at the forefront of helping Kentucky's indigent gain access to health care when it began its mission in 1984 as a private nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Health Kentucky has formed partnerships with state trade and professional associations, volunteer health care providers, the Cabinet for Health Services, and the Cabinet for Families and Children. More than 300,000 individuals have been served since the organization's inception.
