PGY2 Oncology Residency Program

The James Graham Brown Cancer Center, a member of U of L Health Care, provides the highest level of clinical care in the state, access to the latest cancer research, and the resources, education and services Kentucky needs for the prevention and treatment of cancer. The cancer center has been recently remodeled and expanded to include a newly designed pharmacy space.

The Department of Pharmacy at James Graham Brown Cancer Center is excited to offer a patient-care focused PGY2 residency in clinical oncology designed to develop expertise and clinical competence.

Residency experiences include, but are not limited to:

  • Medical Oncology
  • Blood and Bone Marrow Transplantation
  • Gynecology/ Oncology
  • Radiation Oncology
  • Pharmacokinetics
  • Infectious Disease
  • Pain Management and Palliative Care
  • Supportive Care Management
  • Out-patient Oncology Clinics
  • Practice Management
  • Research / Clinical Trials

The resident will participate in:

  • patient education
  • Pharmacy & Therapeutics functions
  • quality improvement programs
  • fiscal planning
  • program development

The resident will gain experience in:

  • clinical trials oversight
  • precepting pharmacy students and PGY1 pharmacy residents
  • participating in physician faculty conferences
  • policy development and multidisciplinary committees

  • Electives : Elective experiences are available.
  • Orientation : Resident orientation activities will include orientation to the hospital, pharmacy departments, drug distribution systems, computer systems, and clinical pharmacy services including clinical policies and procedures.
  • Staffing : Staffing responsibilities will be initially carried out in the central pharmacy followed by rotation through the bone marrow unit and the gynecology oncology unit and any other areas based on interest.
  • Travel / Interviews : Residents would be eligible to attend one national meeting as well as the Great Lakes Pharmacy Residency Conference, Jefferson County Academy of Pharmacists, and KSHP meetings. Interview leave is granted at the discretion of the residency director.
  • Vacation / Holidays : Residents will receive two weeks paid vacation (one with leave, one without leave) and will staff two major holidays per year.
