PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program
The PGY1 pharmacy residency at U of L Health Care is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and offers a complete experience in both acute and ambulatory care
The program is structured according to ASHP’s Residency Learning System and is designed to be flexible and individualized to the resident’s professional goals and interests.
The fundamental goal of the U of L Health Care residency program is to develop clinical practitioners who are capable of:
- Delivering pharmaceutical care to patients in several specialized areas with a focus on providing clinical pharmacy services in a proficient and compassionate manner.
- Educating patients, students, and health care providers.
- Functioning as an effective member of the health care team.
- Demonstrating professional leadership, confidence, and strong communication skills.
- Improving individual practice by self-evaluating one’s skills in providing pharmaceutical care.
Residents are encouraged to develop an approach to their profession that leads to life-long learning and career satisfaction.
Pharmacists who successfully complete the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program at U of L Health Care will be proficient in providing integrated pharmaceutical care as competent practitioners in multiple healthcare environments. This program will provide residents with the learning experiences and opportunities that will enhance their ability to provide quality patient care and to design, implement and improve clinical pharmacy services. Residents will develop a broad range of skills and competencies in the U of L Health Care tertiary teaching hospital, outpatient pharmacy and ambulatory clinics.
