Gynecologic Oncology
Gynecologic cancers are diagnosed, treated and, in some cases, prevented at U of L Health Care’s James Graham Brown Cancer Center. In fact, researchers now working at the Brown Cancer Center developed the world’s first 100 percent effective cervical cancer vaccine – eliminating two strains of the Human Papilloma Virus that causes cervical cancer.
Treatments for gynecologic cancers may occur in the state-of-the-art Brown Cancer Center outpatient clinics or in University Hospital’s dedicated oncology units. Your team of physicians will help decide your best course of treatment. These diagnostic and treatment options include:
- multidisciplinary approach
- simple office procedures and biopsies
- outpatient laparoscopic procedures
- chemotherapy
- intraperitoneal therapy
- radiation
- genetic screening and counseling for patients who may be at a high risk for a gynecologic cancer
