Comprehensive Epilepsy Center

Epilepsy is the third most common neurological disorder in the United States after Alzheimer's disease and stroke. It is equal in prevalence to cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease combined.

Of the 2.7 million Americans diagnosed with a seizure disorder, between 30 and 40 percent have seizures that are not well controlled by medication.

The Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at University Hospital is a referral center for patients whose seizures are difficult to control.

The University Hospital program has been certified a Level IV center - the highest level available - by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers. The Level IV Center features:

• A comprehensive, multidisciplinary team of specialists
• A dedicated, state-of-the-art 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
• Complete range of monitoring, diagnostic and treatment services for epilepsy patients

University Hospital has been conducting seizure monitoring since 1981, and has the only Level IV program in the Louisville area.
