High-Risk Obstetrics

High-Risk ObstetricsEvery pregnancy and delivery merits special care.

For those mothers and babies that require a higher level of expertise and knowledge, however, the University of Louisville physicians practicing alongside the University Hospital labor and delivery staff offer the most up-to-date techniques proven by top shelf research.

The Center for Women and Infants at University Hospital has two leading specialists in maternal-fetal medicine who lead the multidisciplinary team of specialists that are ready to and able to handle any eventuality.

Whether a pregnancy is considered high-risk due to diabetes, a heart condition, multiple births, or any number of reasons, the U of L's highly trained team works together to give the mother and baby the best care possible. The team includes:

Regional Clinical Care

In 2007, UofL Health Care launched its regional clinical care initiative. As part of UofL Health Care's effort to share its expertise with other health facilities in Kentucky, high-risk obstetrics was one of the specialty areas included in the plan.

The partnership provides Kentucky hospitals, which may not specialize in high-risk pregnancies, an opportunity to collaborate with the leading physicians in maternal-fetal medicine at UofL Health Care. The regionalization plan, which includes 11 health facilities in Kentucky, ensures women in Kentucky are receiving the best possible care during pregnancy.
